Project description

The UTOPIA project fosters a welcoming mindset among young locals towards Ukrainian refugees through intercultural dialogue facilitated by youth workers. Its objectives include enhancing support for young refugees, improving youth workers’ skills, increasing refugee youth integration, and promoting the project’s visibility and impact.

Since February 2022, the war in Ukraine has caused over 5.8 million Ukrainian refugees in the EU. UTOPIA promotes their social integration through intercultural activities and educational strategies. The project exemplifies youth work by promoting social inclusion and intercultural dialogue, emphasizing human rights and democracy. It uses gamification to enhance understanding and break cultural barriers.

By facilitating intercultural dialogue, UTOPIA aims to reduce discrimination and xenophobia, fostering social inclusion and aiding refugees’ transition into new environments. Overall, UTOPIA creates an inclusive environment for young locals and Ukrainian refugees, promoting mutual understanding and cooperation.

UTOPIA project results

  • Intercultural Dialogue Guide addressed to youth workers with theory on Intercultural Dialogue and non-formal activities
  • “Become Agent for Social Change” Game addressed to local and refugee youth with 6 branching scenarios that narrate situations where Ukrainian refugees face discrimination
